Kinda mad that I’ve already been at the studio/shop for two whole weeks! My hours, going ahead; are on first slide!

Whilst finding my rhythm int new space; I took ont task of designing a new bumbag… I’ve been getting some great scraps from my other job & they’re fine w/me helping to further reduce waste!

With a bunch of random-shaped offcuts: I designed a bag which is cut to respond to this. Panels of various shapes, sizes & colours -combined to form an eyecatching & modern nod to the classic bumbag.

If you already follow @sneakerpharm ; you’ll know Vinnie’s all about reducing waste & getting more life outta each pair of shoes. This project felt like the perfect starting point, as I moved into his space in NQ. Made outta scraps, this bag is a direct response to waste -repurposing what was gonna end up in landfill -solving a problem through design, craft & careful consideration!

I’ve already made a couple a these & you can come get one, from the shop! I’m in all day Mon/Tue & Sat; last couple hours on Wed/Thu & last hour on Fri -come say hey!

Just done a digital move, next-up is a physical/IRL move! From the start of March, B3 will be based in a pop-up studio at @sneakerpharm & I am very excited to get working under the same roof as my mate Vinnie!

There was plenty of fun & maybe even almost too much sun! Saturday was at Newbird with the main event being the main race! Riders bounced all around the course, replicating a day’s graft of a messenger.
Sunday we took to the pier head for: mechanics race, footdown, trackstands, games & the open forum! Topped off the weekend with a succulent chinese meal & a wholesome day of park hangz.

Thursday, saw riders from all over the nation (/world) visit Manchester & we kicked off the big weekend, with the Pre-WISE MCR event! HUGE thanks to @kranksmcr very own @robin_pike setting up a super fun alleycat! Between airbnbs, hotels, sofas & floors; everyone got some rest- before what was possibly THE biggest group ride from MCR>Liverpool! Friday morning, a 20+ strong crew of fixed gear shredders, geared bike riders & even a few cargobike champs -took over the roads for 40miles a fun! Once we joined @fdcc_0151 & @lts_0151 homies, it was time for the outta towner’s alleycat!

Figured I should be telling my story a bit better/more often- I’m Be & I really love making things!
A buncha head injuries (1in particular) took mosta my childhood memories from me; but the fondest I still have; come from helping my mom on her market stall. We’d be working hard to make real-nice things, for real & nice people. Truly, i kinda miss that market; that spirit & unity that came from working within that space- the knowing, that the person on the stall next to you, had similarly put-in plenty of hard work & their end goal was; similarly to pay the bills & make an honest day!
It seems a much tougher world we’re in today- but it’s actually not too different… the buildings aint the same (if they’re still there) & the market sure as hell aint- but that spirit; the community; graft & honest-days-work… they’re are all still there if you look the right way!
I’m very proud to hold the market as a piece of my past & maybe even more-so, to be a part of the vast creative-community that is STILL pushing real hard-work today!
Big up the little man/woman/person! Support local, support independent, support yr mates & support real people’s real graft- which really helps real people’s lives— not some shareholder-stockmarket-global-corporate nonsense that’s been advertised to you based on yr most recent clicks/views.
It’s getting tougher & tougher to tell what’s what… greenwashing has been all too present for a minute (& it’s new flavour seems to be indy-washing) but there are plenty real independents out there- typically with very small teams, fuelled by very hard work (& great coffee); incredible attention to detail; customer service of the highest human level & pretty-frickin-awesome outputs, for all to enjoy!
Probably gonna tag some of my favourite independents in the comments; I’d love it if you did too, so we can all share some great bits from across the land!

I absolutely fucken LOVE patterned/printed fabrics- the only problem is I sometimes struggle to find appropriate uses for them in my work… But as soon as I saw these gems, I knew exactly what had to be done!
This fabric is deadstock: I can only get as/when I manage to find it… so far I have handmade 1 of each of these hats, in the classic & deliciously-fitting 5PbyB3 form!
I really wanna do more of these- if you knew me around 2011-2016: you’ll likely know exactly why (big-up that OG RipnDip drop as well as all the ‘Preme ones) -I’ll make up some more as/when I can, with what fabric i have…

TLDR: Patches (By Be) are back….

now, if you want a story…
I moved to Manchester about 7 years ago: I didn’t have much of a plan & needed to get myself back on my feet after a bit of a rough patch (ba-dum-tisss)
I picked up a part-time bar job & sofa-surf’d through each weekend; before travelling back to my mom’s to work for her each week (biggest big-ups to my mom & sis & everyone who helped me out!)

There was 2 occasions where my sofa-spot fell through. The first time: I ended up waking up in a bar around 5AM, wondering how I got there… but the second time, I decided I’d had enough of living that way & needed to figure something out.

I’d been making lil sew-on patches of my drawings, for a few friends & my own clothes/bags… but that night (with nowhere to go) was when I decided to take the advice I’d been given (SO many times) to try selling some of my work- with hopes it would encourage me to keep going. I sorted out what patches I had on me (was basically living outta my backpack at the time) & gathered all the pictures I’d taken of’em, before doing my absolute best to figure out how Etsy works, over a lukewarm ‘spoons brekkie.

Turns out people liked the things I made & I ended up sending-out my lil patches, all over the world! This lil bit of work, born out of my silly lil drawings, really helped pull me outta the spot I’d been in. After a while, work/life balance changed, amongst other things & my lil patches were all gone, almost a piece of the past.

So many mates suggested I get back to making them- although various things prevented me from doing so. BUT now it’s 2024 & I finally have most of my shit back together… If I’m wearing a backpack: I made the damn thing & if I’m sleeping on a sofa; iss probably bc I got tired watching a film!
Doing better, is great- but they say not to forget where ye come from- so here’s to the starting snowball: these silly little patches- & the snowman it turned into: that is B3! I am so lucky to be able to make bits I think are cool; luckier that other people like the bits I make & the luckiest that I aint surfin sofas no-mo’!

First few patches are back online- or drop ME a line, to grab one in person. Big love!

Tomorrow’s the day! We’ll be celebrating the launch of the very first collaboration project between @gzgreenhousecafe & @bitsbybe at @idlehandscoffee from 7pm!
 We’ve got a limited-run of heavyweight printed & embroidered tees from the @gzgreenhousecafe factory; a very-limited amount of the collab weekend-bags (featured in my last post) & some customisable totes you can see, right here!

Working off the design of the classic Tote (By Be), we’ve gone for a super heavyweight 12oz ripstop canvas on this collaboration piece; making for a tote you can use over & over & over again. There’s an adjustable strap; a pocket to keep yr keys/phone to-hand & a pop-stud flap close, to keep yr stuff inside.

I’ve also made a bunch of iron-on patches, inspired by the best brunch menu in town! Now you can let people know just how hard you brunch: IRL as well as, on IG! Grab a tote at the event tomorrow, pick some patches to go with it & I’ll even do you the favour of heating them on, right there/then! We’ll have patches available separately, so you can even customise your favourite tote/shirt/bag/bedding at home, too!

This week… Friday… We’re having a launch event for mine & @gzgreenhousecafe first collaborative project.

This project started with my buddy John having a look through some of my work & picking a silhouette to work from, for a custom bag. Setting off, with a shape that nods to the industrious heritage of the cities we call home… we took influence from our own lives, works & interests.
The result is a bag for the weekend. One for trips to other cities; with a rolltop, for when you pack too much. There’s clips for keys, charms or accessories to make it your own & a strap for your coat, towel, bandana- or whatever else it was you almost forgot to pack, before the trip!

There’s a very limited amount of these handmade weekend bags available at the launch event, on Friday from 7pm at @idlehandscoffee There’s gonna be some more Bits, drinks & a whole buncha great vibes too!

I’ve been working hard this year, on a special project between me & my buddy John @gzgreenhousecafe - we’ve worked together, to bring you a combo of street-style, inspired by our respective homes: Manchester & Hong Kong.

Come down to @idlehandscoffee on the evening of Friday 18th October, to join us in celebrating the launch of our first collaborative project together.

I’ve been lucky enough, through most of my adult life; to have been a part of rich & diverse communities. My favourite things about this country are & always have been: people, ideas, communities- from elsewhere.

There’s individuals, families and animals, who have came to this land & made it their home- bringing diversity, business, ways of life & much more… all of which has brought different & positive change, to what we once knew, as a nation…
This has made me proud… Proud to have been part of a country, which has been so welcoming of others- one that celebrates it’s varied communities & ‘outside’ influences these days (rather than just stealing everything, like it used to do).

This shit going on across this country right now, is absolutely abhorrent.
This shit makes me disgusted, dispirited & heartbroken.
This shit steals a whole lot of comfort, safety & pride, from so many people- including: myself, my loved ones & many others within our communities.

‘This shit’: formed from repugnant thoughts, words & actions, of a very narrow-minded few; should not be allowed to ruin all the greatness within this land, for the ever-welcome many.

Racist hate has no place in this country & has never had anything to do w/this business.
I’d like to keep it that way: filled with love & welcoming all with open arms- please & thank you.

I appreciate every individual here- wherever you’re from & however you identify…

So, there’s been samples of the 5PbyB3 available from my store for a minute.. there’s still some left & I’ve added them to my etsy too!
I always found the idea of samples kinda weird, but now I’m doin what I do & learning to make headwear (as well as all the usual bits) I think I kinda get it!
I’ve always been big into headwear, caps specifically. The ‘tumblr-days’ saw a big boom of brands like Supreme- with 5panels made from deadstock fabrics, sprinkled through the feed, daily. Like many others, I was taken-in & made a few trips to the London store to get my hands on the real-deal. I think it was about forty quid for a preme-fivie back then & I was happy to pay it, knowing I’d have something that little bit more unique & pretty well made!

Now I’m doing my own-take on 5panels & I’m still doing my best to make everything as affordable as possible. The samples are a great way to offer the same product, at a bit of a lower rate. The fully-finalised, neat & tidy versions provide the opportunity for me to recreate that same excitement I used to get- a unique & handmade piece of headwear, just for me!

My hats are obviously a bit different to a preme one (it’s my own design for a start) & they’re even more limited, each made one-by-one, By Be, right here in sunny Manchester! If it sounds like yr sorta hat, check out what’s in stock (link in bio n all that) or drop me a message!

New year brings new initiatives, new notions, new motions- all these bits take time & a buncha graft! When I’m quiet online; you can bet yr bottom, that I’m busy in the real world. So here’s a scoop on some of the Bits that have been keeping me nice & busy throughout the start of the year . . .

@fredaldous keep me coming back each week! Together, we’re working on some very exciting projects for the creative customers of their stores- both in-person & online! Keep yr peepers on their page, for an awful lot of creative content to inspire your next project!

@burrito.house.japan should have some bits arriving very soon, offering up a few of my products to their customers on the other side of the world! Me & my buddy John at @gzgreenhousecafe are working on a collaboration for the summer. We’re aiming to bring together some aspects of both Manchester & HongKong street-style through a line of limited pieces! We’ll be celebrating the launch, with a bit of a party at manchester’s best coffee/pie/brunch spot @idlehandscoffee & you guys will be the first to know when that’s gonna be!

B3 started as a hobby- i never really expected much more… but 3years later & here I am: running a registered small-business; I’ve just moved in with the love of my life & there’s people all over the place, that are after these Bits (By Be)!

Once again, all I can do is TRY to express, how much I’ve enjoyed being a part of this series; meeting new folks, seeing old mates & talking to a whole buncha lovely people! It’s been great to chat about what I do & even better to chat about the thing/s that have brought us here . . . . BIKES, riding them, being on bikes w/mates & ALLL that!

Now I ain’t much of a racer myself, but everyone who’s took part in any/every one of these events has absolutely fuckin shredded! The cities & locals have all been lovely; the manifests were all pretty wild; the miles were a-fuckn-plenty & only the best shredderz made it through! Very excited to see race footie from this past weekend in London, if you took part, at any level, any event, any scale - THANK YOU, it’s everyone organising, pulling together, turning up & riding bikes- that really makes this stuff happen!

It’s been an extraordinarily huge, big & massive pleasure of mine; to be a part of this series- proving well & strong that fixedgear, is very much still’ere, all up & down the land! Biggest of big-ups to EVERYONE involved in this…. wether you’ve pulled together to make it happen, manned a checkpoint, raced, or been down to any of the events to hang out & have a nice: I appreciate ya- as I’ve had a blast being a part of this super sick series!

Bloody Friday int it! Friday’s are historically a great day to do Friday-things, wether that’s: making most of the sun; being a slave to the machine for one more day before 2days of rest & system reset; drinking yr body weight in alcoholic beverages; systematically preparing for Saturday; or any other classic friday-activities - WHATEVER it is yr doing… it’s (not)scientifically (not)proven that any/every Friday is better, with a Bottlepouch (By Be) !

These things are great for putting a bottle in, but the fun don’t stop there, no No NO! You see, the wonderful ‘pouch’ part of the design means you can also use these fantastical thingamajigs for more than just bottles- YUP! You can fit all sortsa things in them & you can fit them to all sortsa things too!

I used to make these with velcro straps at the base (maybe you still have one!) but I switched up the other year for a cord-based design. The cord at the base, as fiddly as it has the potential to be, provides a more dynamic & secure support for the pouch & opens it’s uses up, to so much more than just bikes (so far I’ve seen these used on wheelchairs, prams & inside tents, to name a few)

Swipe to the end, to see me fitting the cord of a bottlepouch, to hold it to a bike nice’n’proper- though don’t worry if yours aint fitted this way… it’s your pouch, to do what ye want with & if you still aint got yourself one then get at me, iss way easier than reading alla this, I reckon!

The vibes were on point at all times… everyone came out from everywhere… all the people that raced- absolutely smashed it… was fantastic to speak to so many new people, as it was to see some mates I’ve not seen in years! People always say that thing of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” & if I’m being honest: that’s basically why the Pedalstraps (By Be) have been (mostly) the same, for each of the three years that I’ve been making them so far . . .

The only real change here is instead of being all black always- I now present the option of realtree camo! Maybe you want yr ride looking a lil extra- maybe you shred in the woods all the time & want it looking a lil less- maybe you just like camo- it don’t matter really- jus lemme know if you want some!

After having made myself 6 different versions, over the past 12 years: I figured it was time to settle on/share with you: the CCpouch (ByBe)
Wallets have always confused me & given this odd impending doom… the classic folded hunk of leather, with this projected notion of impressing upon opening…? Always felt a bit much, really & the humble purse always said much more to me. Just enough for what you need, when you need it.
That’s what the CCpouch is: a simple pouch, big enough for cards/coins to go in/out of…
An elastic strip keeps cards to one side; making contactless transactions easy on the go! If yr lucky enough to still have cash to make use of, there’s plenty of space for some of that. And a strong mini-carabiner, keeps the pouch where you want it, when you need it!

Well would you look at that: autumn’s here, spooky season’s near & winter’s just around the corner… so I guess I just had to go & make myself a new daybag for these colder, wetter days ahead.

I went for…
• classic black/orange colourway w/1000D cordura outer, to keep all the wet out
• simple rolltop/buckle combo (using a buckle that’s been sat in the spares box for a few years)
• u-lock strap w/some nice iridescent reflective to stay seen on those darker evenings
• big single main compartment w/concealed sleeve pocket in back panel
• & ofcourse, this pack uses the same interchangeable strap system as all my others, continuing the life of my ol’ bespoke shoulder straps!

This pack was designed/made yesterday & with all necessary info/deposit, etc; it’s likely that I could get your custom pack made pretty swiftly too!

These are some shoulder-straps(By Be). Designed for maximum comfort & peak performance.

I’d like to introduce you to my interchangeable strap system.

The first Bags(By Be) were made using repurposed shoulder-straps. For those who already have a decent pack to recycle: fantastic. When resources aren’t as favourable; another solution is needed.
Materials can still be repurposed, as they have here; but constructing my own design, means a more perfect fit can be achieved.
But, why would I want the perfect fitting straps on only one of my bags? With the design of this system, these can be used on any bag I make, from here on out.

The ergonomically-contoured form, helps spread load across my body better, bringing a fit that feels like a hug (like a really good one).
The cordura construction of the topside, paired with seatbelt webbing & metal hardware, makes straps that can hold the load & tackle the task.
Load adjusters at the top, allow for ultimate customisation of fit; however the pack is filled, or whatever bag they’re used on.
Chuck in some reflective material for added visibility on the bike, D-rings to clip my bottlepouch or keys to & I think I’ve given myself a bit of a high bar to pass.
